It's no surprise that so few attain Enlightenment but it is a pity that more don't - because, I believe, given good guidance, example and environment that they could.
The first problem is understanding, or more, precisely misunderstanding. So many people are seeking understanding but instead of receiving it all that get is a car boot sale load of misunderstanding.
It's like everyone is looking for a map of Rishikesh but the only map being sold is of one of Calcutta. Worse, the map of Calcutta attains cult-like status due to its ubiquity which sparks a cottage industry of pundits, aiming for fame and fortune, during the spiritual credit crunch famine. "Yes you too can go to Rishikesh" they tout - although it's really Calcutta
Calcutta thus becomes the yardstick of bona-fide spirituality and everyone adopts Calcuttan ways: dress code, customs, cuisine and some not so healthy ones (but who cares Calcutta-ness is next to Godliness
). If you don't speak with a Culcuttan accent and can't do the proverbial head-wobble then you will be conspicuously judged as outside of the nouveau cognoscenti
Of course, it's all just a marketing scam. If the impoverished Emperor has no clothes, it's not because no-one dares to tell, it's because no one wants to know. But one clue is that when the masses say they have found IT, then IT probably is somewhere else. Jesus gave similar advice concerning rumours of his reappearance. None the less, this won't stop people speaking about IT as if they know IT, because people will talk about anything which they think is in fashion because they dare not be seen as unfashionable.
Getting enlightened might mean being unfashionable.
My first task as spiritual teacher is to clear up misunderstandings. Otherwise seekers listen but they can't hear (another of Jesus' observations). Furthermore, they cannot use their mind, energy and attention effectively - and they will need to if they are to crack out of their fascination with the thoughts in their head to break through to the larger awareness which awaits them.
This are other types of understanding, other than intellectual, there is an existential understanding at the soul level but if I write any more I will have typed out the whole online class. It's much easier to listen in from the comfort of your own home. So join me in for the online class this Sunday and every Sunday at daveoshana.com

Practical Details - Important!
But that are some practical details that you should test NOW, and well before class, to ensure that you are in the front row and comfortably tuned in. It's all rather simple. Even a Windows 98 user can tune in. And your PC probably has everything that you need if you have listened to music or watched film online.
1. You need a media player (see list below). Install them all (you have my blessing not to install WMP if you are Microsoftphobic)
2. Only if you don't have one already, you need to register a username account with daveoshana.com
(free and simple)
3. Activate your account via the account activation email link (check your spam box or use the contact form if you don't receive one)
4. Test the media players, to see if you can hear whatever is playing now (probably the most recent AUDIOcast)
5. Be logged in 1 hour before class when we switch audio streams and see which player plays best.
6. Get a tall drink. Relax and listen. You're in!
Embedded Media Players
We recommend Firefox browser
and have had good results with light non-commercial players like QuickTime Alternative
You can also use Windows Media Player, QuickTime and Real Player for live classes. It seems that different people have different results with the various media players.
Installation note: you have to completely close all of your your internet browser windows before installing the player in your browser.
Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin
WMP for MAC
- reportedly Windows QT only works with live stream, not 24 hour broadcast
Windows Real Player
(might not work in Internet Explorer)
MAC Real Player
Linux Real Player
Alternative Media Players
The following non-commercial media players may work better than the commercial originals. They are light, tight and fit - and don't install adware and spyware.
QuickTime Alternative and Real_Alternative
Old PC, Windows NT4.0 / 98 / ME / 2000
Real Player, Gold 10.5
