Push Me, Pull Me? Masking Primal Intimacy

Being simultaneously here and not here is how most people implausibly try to cope.

The need for intimacy is so primal that we constantly work towards it, but so scary that we constantly push it away. Instead we create and gravitate towards inferior substitutes which destabilise our sense of reality, cause acting out in every sense, addiction and unnecessary scarcity.

Wearing a mask, literally and figuratively, alleviates such concerns by providing both limited contact and anonymity. Being simultaneously here and not here is how most people implausibly try to cope in their lives, bodies and relationships. This unsustainable dynamic ultimately dissolves the integrity of the human species.

This problem dynamic spans a spectrum from personal to global, affecting everything in between including personal, family, communal and organizational relationships.
